Our Mission

At Community Soul, we believe in the transformative power of singing—not only for individual wellbeing but for creating a collective spirit that resonates far beyond our rehearsals. Our mission is to bring people together through music, fostering connection, joy, and a true sense of belonging.

A Choir for Everyone

We are committed to creating an inclusive, supportive space where singers of all backgrounds, identities, and musical experiences can come together in harmony. Whether you’re a seasoned singer or trying something new, you belong here.

All we ask is that you bring:
💛 An open mind
🎶 A love of music and connection
✨ A willingness to leave judgment—of yourself and others—at the door

Together, we create a space where every voice is valued, and every song is a celebration of community.

What We Offer

🎵 Expert Musical Direction

Our choir is led by an experienced and passionate Musical Director, dedicated to helping every singer find and enjoy their voice. We also recognise the deep connection between music and mental wellbeing, creating an environment where singing feels uplifting and empowering.

🎶 Uplifting Contemporary Music

We focus on soulful, inspiring contemporary songs chosen to uplift, connect, and energise. Our repertoire is designed to be accessible, engaging, and filled with joy.

🤝 Community Gatherings Instead of Performances

Rather than formal concerts, we host relaxed community gatherings where we come together to share our music in an informal, welcoming setting. These gatherings are about being present, making connections, and experiencing the collective energy of group singing.

What to Expect

Mindful, Low-Pressure Participation

At Community Soul, there’s no pressure to perform, no auditions, and no need for perfection. You’ll never be put on the spot or asked to sing alone—we lift each other up and create a supportive, judgment-free space. Sing as much or as little as feels right for you—your presence is enough.

How We Learn the Music

To make learning easy, sheet music and vocal recordings are provided at least a week before each session via email. We encourage everyone to familiarise themselves with their part before we meet, so we can focus on the joy of singing together rather than just note-learning.

💡 No need to memorise anything! Singing in a group makes everything easier, and you’ll be surrounded by others singing your part, offering support every step of the way.

Arriving on Time

To keep a focused and connected singing experience, please arrive no later than 15 minutes after the start time. After this, we close the doors to maintain the energy and flow of the session.

Practical Information

Cancellation Policy

Tickets are refundable up to 48 hours before the event. After this, we’re unable to offer refunds, as this helps keep our sessions financially sustainable. If you can’t make it, please let us know—we’d love to offer your spot to someone else.

Photography & Media

We love sharing the magic of our choir gatherings! There may be photographers or videographers present, and by attending, you consent to being part of any media captured, some of which may be shared online. If you prefer not to be photographed, just let us know.

Accessible for All

Music should be for everyone, regardless of financial circumstances. Community Soul operates on a sliding scale donation system, and no one is turned away for lack of funds. If cost is a barrier, please reach out to discuss alternative ways to take part.

Singing together is a deeply human experience—one that connects, heals, and uplifts.

Come and sing with Community Soul—because music is better when we make it together. 🎶

Maia Hendrickx - Musical Director

Since graduating from East15 Acting School, Maia has worked professionally as a soloist, session singer and vocal coach.
Whilst specialising in Musical Theatre, Maia enjoys working in a number of different genres. Among her current musical projects, she is one half of Americana/Folk Duo ‘HendrickxRoy’ and also a regular guest vocalist for ‘The Clive Fortune Big Band’.
Alongside performing, Maia runs a busy studio in West Berkshire, where she trains aspiring young musical theatre performers.

After completing her PGCert in Vocal Pedagogy, Maia was invited to speak at the 2019 ‘Voice Geek Conference’ to share the innovative findings of her research on ‘Depression and Its Impact Upon the Working Practices of the Professional Singer’ to an international audience of her peers.

In 2020, Maia accidentally started a choir, online, in the middle of a pandemic. Since then, she has loved working with the singers that make up ‘Soul Reason’, who bring her joy every Thursday.
